The Application of Investment casting and CNC machining in manufacturing.-1

In investment casting production, casting defects are inevitable due to the long and complicated process. If casting defects occur during production, it will not only increase production costs, but also affect production progress and delivery time. If quality accidents occur during use, it will not only cause significant economic and reputation losses to the company.

Therefore, investment casting defect analysis is becoming more and more important. Defect analysis is to find out the main causes of defects and propose methods to eliminate and prevent defects in castings. In order to facilitate the analysis of casting defects, we divide defects into three types: general defects, heavier defects and severe defects.
      1. General defects

    The number of defects in castings is small, and the loss is small, which is called general defects. For general defects, you can use your own knowledge and experience to find out the cause of the defects and take effective countermeasures to solve them.

      2. Heavier defects

    Castings with a large number of defects will cause greater losses; or defects that occur frequently or repeatedly are called heavier defects. This usually requires comprehensive analysis with the help of chemical composition analysis, metallographic analysis, fracture analysis and mechanical property testing, as well as non-destructive testing, electron microscopy and other advanced testing methods, and then effective countermeasures can be taken.

    2.  Severe defects

The phenomenon that castings lose their original functions due to factors such as stress, time, temperature, environmental media or operating errors during use is called casting failure. If a casting has defects that lead to failure, it is called a serious defect. This requires the use of testing institutions or equipment to analyze and detect to find out the cause, and then take effective countermeasures.

At present, the most widely used and basic defect analysis method is the intuitive analysis method.

The intuitive analysis method takes the visual characteristics of casting defects as the basis for defect analysis. Therefore, the intuitive analysis method pays special attention to and often uses metallographic analysis, even scanning electron microscopy, or scanning electron microscopy-energy spectrum analysis and other advanced detection methods to check and confirm the visual characteristics of defects. The use of the intuitive analysis method must go deep into the site to solve the problem, which requires the mold worker to have deep professional knowledge, relatively rich production practice experience and the skills to correctly handle the problem.
