Investment Casting Stainless Steel Parts for Machinery
Characteristic
Both investment casting and precision CNC machining are capable of producing or processing parts with complex geometries, and both are compatible with a wide range of metal materials. However, investment casting uses a mold-based process, which allows for high production efficiency once the mold is prepared. Compared to CNC machining—where each part must be individually processed on a machine—investment casting is significantly more cost-effective. Additionally, since the molds are typically made from aluminum, their cost remains relatively low. As a result, investment cast parts are widely used across various industries, particularly those requiring complex components. That said, investment casting generally offers lower precision than CNC machining. Combining these two processes is an excellent solution—it meets precision requirements while reducing costs (compared to machining the entire part solely through CNC).

In the manufacturing sector, investment casting plays a crucial role that extends beyond product quality and performance to impact our daily lives significantly. This precision casting method finds applications across virtually all industrial fields, particularly in electronics, petroleum, chemicals, energy, transportation, consumer goods, textiles, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, pumps and valves. Critical process considerations include avoiding excessive parting agent in mold cavities, maintaining consistent wax injection parameters to ensure dimensional accuracy, properly storing wax patterns with adequate spacing or fixtures to prevent deformation, and carefully handling molds during trimming to avoid surface damage. These meticulous controls make investment casting both versatile for diverse applications and reliable for precision components.
